Counselling for Young Adults Aged 16–25
A space to understand yourself, without judgement
Being a young adult can be exciting, but it can also be confusing, overwhelming, and
uncertain.
There can be enormous pressure to work out who you are, where you fit and what
you're supposed to do with your life.
You might be navigating school, college or university, starting work, relationships,
friendships, family expectations or becoming more independent, all while trying to
deal with difficult feelings or experiences.
You don't need to have everything figured out.
Counselling for Young Adults Aged 16–25
What Might Bring You to Counselling?
You might be struggling with:
-
anxiety or overthinking
-
low mood
-
feeling overwhelmed
-
low confidence
-
friendships or relationships
-
family difficulties
-
feeling different or as though you don't fit in
-
university, college or work pressures
-
motivation
-
anger
-
trauma or childhood experiences
-
grief and loss
-
shame or feeling "not good enough"
-
trusting people
-
people-pleasing
-
setting boundaries
-
uncertainty about the future.
Sometimes your starting point might simply be:
"I don't feel like myself"
or:
"I don't know why I feel like this"
That's enough.

Understanding Yourself, Not Judging Yourself
Perhaps you overthink everything.
Maybe you're terrified of disappointing people.
You might want people close but then push them away.
Perhaps criticism affects you deeply, or you become overwhelmed much faster than you think you "should".
Rather than judging these responses, we can become curious about them.
Understanding why something developed can help you find a different relationship with yourself and create more choice about what happens next.
Relationships, Confidence & Self-Worth
Relationships can feel particularly intense during young adulthood.
You might worry about rejection, need reassurance, struggle to trust or remain in relationships when you're unhappy.
You might also compare yourself constantly with others and feel that everybody else seems more confident, capable or successful.
My aim isn't to tell you to "just think positively".
It's to help you develop a more compassionate and realistic understanding of yourself.
What Is Counselling With Me Like?
You won't be expected to talk about anything before you're ready.
I'm an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. My approach is particularly informed by attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy and trauma-informed practice, while drawing on other approaches where they may be useful.
Therapy is something we do together, at a pace that feels manageable for you.
Confidentiality
What you talk about in counselling is treated with respect and confidentiality.
At the beginning of our work, I will clearly explain how confidentiality works and the limited circumstances in which information may need to be shared because of serious safety or safeguarding concerns.
